Terms of Service
1. What maniquest is
maniquest is a web application where users set one task ("quest") each day — planned the night before, or the same day if none was set — and prove they followed through with a live photo. By default, your quests and photos are kept long-term so you can look back on them; you can turn this off in Settings, in which case they're deleted daily instead. Whether your quests and photos are visible to other users depends on your profile's public/private setting — see the Privacy Policy below for details.
2. Who can use maniquest
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
3. Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your login details secure.
- One account per person. Don't create accounts on behalf of others or impersonate someone else.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings (see Privacy Policy below for what happens when you do).
4. Your quests and photos
- You choose your own quest each day. maniquest doesn't verify that a quest was actually completed — the live photo is proof you're willing to share, not a guarantee of the outcome.
- Your first photo for each quest must be taken live, in the moment, using the app's camera — not uploaded from your gallery. Any additional photos you add afterward may come from your camera or your gallery.
- Your quests and photos are visible to other maniquest users only if your profile is set to public — the default setting, changeable anytime in Settings. If your profile is private, only your picture, name, and username are visible to others; your quests, photos, and history are visible only to you.
- By default, your quests and photos are kept long-term so you can look back on your own history. You can turn this off in Settings, in which case they're deleted automatically at midnight, Irish/UK time, going forward. If you want to keep a copy of your own photo despite this, save it to your device before it's wiped by using the 'Download' button.
- In rare, serious cases — for example, content that may be illegal — a quest and its photo may instead be preserved rather than deleted, and immediately hidden from other users, while the matter is referred to the relevant authorities. See the Privacy Policy below for what this means for your data.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use maniquest to:
- Post photos or quests that are abusive, harassing, sexually explicit, or illegal
- Post content that isn't genuinely your own attempt at your stated quest
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent who you are
- Attempt to disrupt, hack, or abuse the service
Other users can report a quest or photo that breaks these rules. maniquest reviews reports and, at its discretion, may remove content or suspend an account — temporarily or permanently — for violations of these terms. A record of reports and any resulting suspension is kept; see the Privacy Policy below for details.
For content that may be seriously illegal, maniquest may instead preserve the content, immediately suspend the account, and refer the matter to the appropriate authorities rather than simply removing it. See the Privacy Policy below for what this means for your data.
6. No guarantees
maniquest is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it running reliably, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access, and we're not responsible for any consequences of missed quests, technical issues, or content posted by other users.
7. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as maniquest evolves. If we make significant changes, we'll do our best to let you know before they take effect.

Privacy Policy
1. What data we collect
- Email address — used for account login and identification.
- Password — stored securely (hashed, never in plain text).
- Profile info (optional) — a tagline and profile picture, if you choose to add them.
- Quest text — the task you set each day.
- Proof photos — live photos you take to prove you completed your quest.
- Extra photos (optional) — additional photos you choose to add to a quest after it's been proven, from your camera or your gallery.
- Feedback you send us — any message you submit through the in-app feedback form, and a screenshot too, if you choose to attach one.
- Reports you submit — if you report another user's quest or photo, we store the reason and any details you provide.
- Push notification subscription (optional) — if you enable reminders in Settings, your browser generates a unique subscription address and a pair of encryption keys, which we store in order to send you notifications. This is only collected if you turn reminders on, and is tied to your device/browser, not to you personally.
2. How we use your data
- To operate your account (login, authentication).
- To display your quests and proof photos to other users, if your profile is set to public, as part of how maniquest works.
- To calculate and display your streak and lifetime completed total.
- To review reports of rule-breaking content and, where necessary, take action such as removing content or suspending an account.
- In serious cases, to preserve content and refer a suspected criminal matter to the appropriate authorities.
- If you've enabled reminders, to send you push notifications about your daily quest — nothing else.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. How long we keep your data
- By default, quest text and proof photos are kept for as long as your account is active, so you can look back on your own history. If you turn this off in Settings, they're instead deleted automatically every night from that point onward — this never retroactively deletes anything already saved. Neither setting involves separate backups or archives.
- If a quest or photo is placed under an investigation hold — because it may involve seriously illegal content — it is preserved rather than deleted, and kept out of public view, until the hold is lifted or the matter is resolved with the relevant authorities. This is retained on the basis of our legitimate interest, and potentially legal obligation, in addressing suspected criminal activity.
- Your account details (email, password, streak, lifetime total, profile info) are kept for as long as your account is active.
- If you choose to save a photo to your own device before it's deleted, that copy is yours and is no longer something maniquest can access or control.
- Feedback you send, and reports you submit about other users, are kept indefinitely as a record of past issues — these aren't cleared by the nightly reset.
- If an account is suspended, a record of the suspension (when, for how long, and why) is kept even after the suspension ends, and even if the account is later deleted. This is standard practice for moderation and safety records, and is retained on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping maniquest safe.
- If you've enabled push notifications, your subscription is kept until you turn reminders off, or until your browser or device reports the subscription no longer exists (for example, if you've uninstalled the app), at which point it's automatically removed.
4. Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page, unless one of your quests is under an active investigation hold (see above) — in that case, account deletion isn't available until the hold is resolved. Otherwise, when you delete your account:
- Your account, email, password, profile picture, tagline, streak, and lifetime total are permanently deleted from our systems.
- Any of your quests, proof photos, and extra photos still on our servers are also permanently deleted, including the actual image files, not just the records referencing them.
- Your push notification subscription, if you had one, is also deleted.
- We do not retain a copy of your email, password, or profile info after deletion.
- If your account was ever reported or suspended, a record of that (see "How long we keep your data" above) is kept even after your account is deleted, for moderation and safety purposes.
- Any feedback or reports you've submitted are also kept after deletion, as described in "How long we keep your data" above.
- This action cannot be undone — there is no recovery period or grace window.
5. Who can see your data
- Your profile is public by default. While public, your daily quest and proof photo appear in the community feed, and other users can view your full profile — tagline, picture, streak, lifetime total, and your consistency history.
- If you set your profile to private in Settings, none of that is shown to other users. Your quests and photos no longer appear in the community feed, and anyone viewing your profile directly sees only your picture, name, and username — nothing else. Only you can see your own quests, photos, tagline, streaks, and history while private.
- Switching between public and private takes effect immediately and applies to your existing history too, not just going forward.
- If you're reported, or if you report someone else, the details of that report are visible to maniquest's admin for review — not to other regular users. In serious cases involving suspected illegal content, relevant information may also be shared with the appropriate authorities.
- We do not share your data with third parties, except where required by law.
6. Your rights
Since maniquest is used in Ireland/the EU, you have rights under GDPR, including the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data (see above)
- Ask questions about how your data is used
One exception: if your account has ever been reported or suspended, the record of that (not your account data itself, which is deleted) is kept for safety and moderation purposes even after account deletion, on the basis of our legitimate interest in preventing repeat abuse. A further exception applies if your account has a quest under an active investigation hold: in that case, account deletion isn't available at all until the hold is resolved, for the reasons described above.

7. Cookies
maniquest uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies to operate:
- A session cookie, which keeps you signed in while you use the app.
- An optional "remember me" cookie, set only if you tick "Remember me" when signing in, which keeps you signed in for up to 30 days without needing to log in again.
These cookies are essential to how maniquest works and are not used for tracking, advertising, or analytics. Because of this, they don't require separate cookie consent under applicable law.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data, including secure password storage and standard web security practices. However, no system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as maniquest evolves. If we make significant changes, we'll do our best to let you know before they take effect.
